The Bocock Family
Market Stainton & Washingborough, Lincolnshire
1760 - 1920

The Bocock family has been traced back to John Bocock who was born sometime close to 1760. He and his wife, Jane (born circa 1763), had 7 children. Jane died October 24, 1799 in Market Stainton a few months after giving birth to their youngest child, Sarah. John and Jane's son, Thomas Bocock, was born in Market Stainton and married Anne Proudly in 1817 in Corringham. Thomas was a carpenter.

Thomas and Anne's eldest son, Thomas Bocock, worked as an agricultural laborer. He married Mary Hall, daughter of William Hall and Mary Dimande sometime in 1841. Thomas and Mary moved back to the Market Stainton area a number of years before the birth of their youngest son, John Frederick Bocock.

John Thomas Bocock John Frederick Bocock married Eliza (Heaton True) True in Goulceby in June of 1886 and they moved to Washingborough sometime before the birth of their second child. His occupation at the time of marriage was labourer. Prior to marrying John Frederick, Eliza gave birth to son, James Heaton in 1884. Eliza and John Frederick had 4 sons; one of whom, William "Willie" Bocock, died fighting in WWI. He is buried in Grovetown British Cemetary, France. The story goes that Rick's sudden passing broke his mother's heart and she died soon after, in February 1917.

John and Eliza's third son, John Thomas Bocock (pictured, right), was born in Washingborough in 1890. He married Lily Newton, daughter of Rebecca Newton (Wright) in 1920. John Thomas belonged to the British Legion, collected football cards and worked as a drilling machinist in a foundry. He died of heart failure in 1960. Lily and John Thomas' eldest daughter, Hilda Bocock, was born in Washingborough on February 10, 1922. She married Revell Blackwood White on October 21, 1945 in Hamworthy Poole, Dorset.

Many of the Bocock family are buried in the Washingborough churchyard.
